Union Fire Company

Union Fire Company of Cornwells Heights got its start in 1927 when 39 men decided that the Cornwells Manor section of the community needed its own fire company. A bad barn fire in the area prompted the action. Originally, Union Fire Company was located in a private garage directly across the street from where the firehouse is today.  Around 1950 a gentleman named George Sinns, a resident of nearby Echo Beach donated the large plot of ground across from the old firehouse and the volunteers proceeded to erect the beautiful building which now housed their activities. The new firehouse cost $52,000 and was built by the members.

There was room to house as many as nine pieces of apparatus in the building. The organizations first apparatus was a 1928 childs pumper. It had the capacity of 500 gallons per minute.

Some of our original officers for the new company were:

Chief- Matthew Palka

First Assistant Chief- George Delia

President- Milton Major

Director- Roland Willard

Radio Officer- George Shaw

Secretary- Richard Baus

Treasurer- Robert Hanley

Union Fire Company has been serving its community for over 75 years and is 100 percent Volunteer
